The Idea:

Weather is becoming more and more unpredictable, making it increasingly important to stay informed about changing conditions. However, people are often overwhelmed by weather apps that present too much information, much of which is not relevant to everyday decisions. Rain Radar is designed as a simple and focused weather app that highlights only the most crucial information, presenting it in a clear and friendly visual format that is easy to understand at a glance.

The app’s radar-based visualization helps users quickly grasp what is happening in the sky around them. Instead of relying only on numbers and text-based forecasts, the data creates a real, dynamic picture of the weather. This allows users not only to see current conditions but also to intuitively imagine how the weather is developing—where the winds are blowing, how clouds are moving, and where rain is likely to appear next. By turning complex meteorological data into a visual experience, the app helps people make faster and more confident decisions about their day.

A challenge:

This project itself was primarily a design experiment rather than a full production product. When Material 3 was introduced, I wanted to explore whether it was possible to create a fully automated design system that would be easy to maintain, recolor, and adapt across different contexts. Rain Radar served as an ideal study case for this exploration. Its relatively simple functionality made it perfect for experimenting with layout, theming, and component consistency while creating a modern facelift for the user interface. The goal was to see how far a flexible and scalable design approach could go when applied to a real, functional app concept.
